New Muslims Biography

Source:- Google.com.pk
For me it was a series of incidents, one of which was:

I was riding my bike or jogging (can't remember exactly...) and saw a Tableeghi Jamaat and a Non-Muslim white woman came and asked them "Why do you cover your head and have long Beards etc"?

I knew nothing about who these people were but just recognised them as Pakistanees (due to Shalwar Qameez) having trouble with someone in English...

They were trying to explain that it is Sunnah but couldn't in English so I translated

The woman turned around and asked me "If the prophet did all that then then how come you don't, aren't you Muslim too?"

That hit me hard as I had no reply for that one

I've been asked this many times, but till today can't make out any "turning point". My parents have been more practising than the average Muslim (especially in the West), since I can remember. Of course I was not born pious, sometimes I was more practising and sometimes less. But by spending more and more time in the path of Allah with Jama'at, Allah granted me more and more constancy and steadfestness. Still today I'm sometimes moving on heights (highs?) and at other times going through lows.

Everyone is humbly requested to make Du'a that Allah Ta'ala makes me totally firm!

i was driving past dewsbury markaz on thursday night with my mates. i looked up and saw the minaret which was illuminated by the moonlight. that stirred something in me and i made an intention to go for 4 months. not so long afterwards i got thrown out of college for beating up a lecturer who was throwing his weight around. this all happened around september purana sathi ijtima so i left for 4 months after the ijtima. thats how the journey started. im still at the beginning.

Assalamu Alaikum

I was far from perfect but Alhamdulilah my parents tried their best to bring me up in practicing environment, and alhamdulilah my community is also practicing. But everything was routine and their was no zeal to improve and increase my knowledge. Its only when I went to University abroad then my eyes opened up. I would say the following four factors combined caused me to want to improve myself and increase my knowledge.

1) Meeting people with different backgrounds and cultures, seeing them enjoy themselves while being aware of salah times and staying away from haram (esp the Islamic Society in Uni. Also hearing common people talk about Islam, Quran and Hadith while carrying out any activity as opposed to never hearing any advice form Quran and Hadith when I see some aalims playing sports or just chilling out with others )

2) Reading from www.tafsir.com (before that I hardly thought about the meanings of anything I read in salah)

3) Hardship you have to go through to get to Masjid and to find halal food (the feeling you get from catching bus and then walking to Masjid alone when you get chance is much better than just getting in your car and driving to Masjid)

4) and last but not least, the Salafis (who were the most strict Muslims on campus, and with the most zeal for knowledge, it is because of them that I found sunniforum.com and askimam.com etc )

Salaam,

I was a practicing Muslim from age 4-7 in Afghanistan, I could read and write in Arabic. I was one of the best recitors in my school. Once my family & I came to the U.S. my Islamic education & practices faded away - I got distracted with trying to learn English, playing with other (non-Muslim) kids, my mom was working full-time, my dad had passed away, etc. I had forgotten how to pray, forgotten almost all surahs, etc.

It was around 2002 when my soul started waking up again. I was watching a biography video called Hooked: The Legend of Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell- a convert to Islam who had so much love & dedication to Islam. It was very emotional and this was the turning point in my life. I felt like my dead soul was coming back alive again. I started learning how to pray again, learned surahs (some had sounded very familiar). I have lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years now and by the grace & mercy of Allah swt I am once again starting a journey that I had once left (inshallah).
